Lamine Yamal mentioned that occasionally he feels akin to Superman or Spider-Man, and supporters of Spain are beginning to question if that might actually be true. The teenager's current exploits carry a comic book hero quality, as if some unexplained superpower is surging within him. For the third match in a row, he netted a goal within the first six minutes, curling in another stunning strike as Spain secured a 3-1 victory over Czechia in Oviedo during their World Cup homecoming, putting them just one point away from the Nations League quarter-finals. Spain's manager, Luis de la Fuente, stated simply: "Lamine Yamal is on track to become a legend."

Yet in a contest that appeared settled by halftime, with Spain leading 2-0 after Rodrigo Hernandez added the second goal and Lamine Yamal was substituted, his performance seemingly over, the threat resurfaced. Czechia, significantly improved after the break, scored one back through Jiri Slama in the 69th minute and were then denied a 79th-minute equalizer when referee Vassilis Fotias, who came to Spain's rescue, controversially disallowed a goal by Ryan Naderi—apparently for a foul on Robin Le Normand as the free kick that led to it was delivered.
